Main Street Station The Main Street Railroad Station
Home to the Disneyland and Santa Fe Railroads the Main Street Train Station sits atop the berm and entrance tunnels of Disneyland.
Inside the main building of the station are several railroad-related artifacts. Also included in the station is an aerial photograph of Disneyland, which depicts the railroad switches and train positions in real time.
Also on display in the Main Street Station, brought to us from the Disney Archives, is the original Lilly Belle. A scale model steam engine Walt used in his backyard "Carolwood Pacific Railroad".
In the early days of Disneyland, the railroad only had two locomotives that were both built by scratch at the Disney Studios. Engine number one, the CK Holiday, was outfitted as a freight train complete with cattle car motif. While engine number two, the EP Ripley, was the Disneyland Railroads only passenger car. Originally, to keep in theme, passengers could only board the passenger train at the Main Street station while the freight train would pass along a spur track in front of the station which still exists to this day. An antique handcar currently sits on the Main Street spur track.
On the south side of the Main Street Station sits a population sign. The sign which reads "Disneyland, USA" shows the parks elevation about sea level (128 feet) and also the Population, which is represented by the number of people who have passed through Disneylands gates. The signs current population reads 400,000,000.
Sitting atop the Main Street station are two flags. One of course is Old Glory, while the other one is a special Disneyland flag.
