Restaurants in New Orleans Square
This website grew out of working for nine years in New Orleans Restaurants as a cashier, busser, sweeper, order-taker, sandwich maker, cook, soda-jerk, steward, dishup, general nuisance, and lead/manager. I was mostly "lead" during that time - seven of those nine years - but some argue that "nuisance" captures it better after all.
I spent most of my time at Cafe Orleans, which I think shows in my descriptions and pictures. I worked for 18 months at French Market, and only occasionally at Blue Bayou, the main kitchen (NOMK), and the employee's cafeteria (DEC/DINER). All these locations were once considered to be a single department, so if needed to we would have to work at places other than our normal location.
All these locations belonged to Department 959 - better known as "New Orleans Restaurants." For many of us, we were there for so many hours, and made such good friends, that this workplace became a second home.
The list below is grouped by "business unit" (for example, French Market Cast Members routinely staff the Mint Julep Bar, Cafe Cast Members work in the Veranda, and so on). And now, here you "leave today and enter a magical land of fantasy" (well, of Cajun cooking and New Orleans architecture, anyway)!
