Some of the various discounts at Disneyland restaurants may also apply to the cost of admission or to merchandise purchases, but there may be other restrictions and conditions that apply in those cases, so it's best to assume nothing.

You probably guessed this, but I'll say it anyway: you can't "combine" these discounts for a "mega-discount" - you can only use one per purchase.

In the last section, you can find out about the various methods of payment for your meal at Disneyland restaurants - and there are surprisingly many.

Magic Kingdom Club Discount. If you have a Magic Kingdom Club card, as most people and companies do, then you can use it for discounts at buffeterias only, meaning Plaza Inn, Plaza Pavillion, Cafe Orleans, French Market, Casa Mexicana, Big Thunder Barbeque, and Riverbelle Terrace. There is a further restriction: the discount is only available from 2:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The discount is 10% off the total bill.

American Express/White Glove Discounts. If you use your American Express card, the official card of Disneyland, you can receive a 10% discount from food purchases. Again, this discount is not good everywhere. In fact, it's only offered at a limited selection of buffeterias, namely Plaza Inn, Plaza Pavillion, Cafe Orleans, French Market, Casa Mexicana, and Riverbelle Terrace. Once more, this is only good during a certain time period: from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

It is also available from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at: P.C.H. Grill, Yamabuki at DL Pacific Hotel and Stromboli's, Goofy's Kitchen at the DL Hotel, but does not include alcoholic beverages.

Please show your American Express card BEFORE making the purchase or you might have problems getting the discount.

Premium Annual Passport Discount. If you possess a Disneyland Premium Annual Passport, you can receive 10% off food purchases that cost over $10 (that is the mimimum purchase to receive the discount). There is no time restriction for the discount, but it is only valid at buffeterias and full-service restaurants. Redd Rockett's Pizza Port, which in many ways resembles a buffeteria, is considered a fast-food location and therefore does not honor AP discounts. You can use this discount at Big Thunder Barbecue, Cafe Orleans, Carnation Cafe, Casa Mexicana, French Market, Plaza Inn, Plaza Pavilion, and River Belle Terrace. At the Blue Bayou, you actually get 15% off. Over at the hotels, you can use your Premium Passport for 10% at Goofy's Kitchen (DLH), Granville's Steak House (DLH), Disney's PCH Grill (DLP), Practically Perfect Tea (DLP), and Yamabuki (DLP).

Cast Member Discount. Employees of the Walt Disney Company receive a 20% discount on food items (regardless of whether they have the "A" discount or the "B" discount). This applies to all food locations, and there is no time limitation. They have even done away with the mimimum purchase to receive the discount.

Senior Citizen Discounts? I'm sorry to report there are no specific discounts for senior citizens at any of the restaurants, and there are not even senior citizen menus available.

Military Discounts? Nope, afraid not! You'll have to be content with the Magic Kingdom Club discount, since many active military personnel do have access to this card.

Forms of Payment

Cash. Naturally, you are welcome to use good old-fashioned American currency. Most locations have no trouble changing even hundred dollar bills, unless you try to do this during the first hour of business on a given day.

Credit Card. Can you name all the cards accepted at Disneyland? All together, now: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB, and Disney Charge. All locations now use the magnetic stripe, so there are no more messy carbon forms. However, some of the smaller locations (like fruit carts) may not accept credit cards.

Personal Check. You may write a personal check FOR THE AMOUNT OF PURCHASE ONLY. It is possible to cash checks at the Bank of Main Street or City Hall if you need cash, or you could visit one of the many ATM's in the Park. Business checks are not accepted.

Traveler's Check. Disneyland accepts all forms of traveler's checks. If they are unsigned by the time you reach the cashier, they will ask you for identification (as well they should!) The "two signiture" traveler's checks are OK, provided that you sign one of those signitures in the cashier's presence.

Disney Dollars. Everyone owns some Disney Dollars, and Disneyland really does accept them as payment at the restaurants. Unless you specify otherwise, however, any change you receive will be in American Dollars.

Foreign Currency. Bet you didn't know this one. You could exchange foreign currency at the Bank of Main Street or at City Hall (much cheaper than airports), or you could even pay at the restaurant for your food with rubles, pesos, lira, deutsch marks, whatever. The cashier will call Cash Management for a current quote on the exchange rate, calculators will be brought to bear, and presto! you then hand the cashier the equivalent of a $33 dollar bill (or whatever) and receive change in American Dollars. You can even use Traveler's Checks drawn on foreign currency. FOREIGN COINS, HOWEVER, ARE NOT ACCEPTED. There is only one form of foreign coins allowed - Canadian. Disneyland will accept these up to $1 without bothering to hassle with exchange rates.
