You are about to embark on a historic
journey. You arrive early in the morning at the sparkling
lagoon which serves as your home port. Today's Journey
begins at the Exploration Docks in Tomorrowland and you
are about to board a nuclear submarine which will take
you on a voyage through liquid space.
|

|
After
a short briefing explaining some of the wonders of the
deep, you are escorted down to the loading dock where you
catch your first glimpse of the vessel taking you on your
journey, Submarine D-301 Nautilus.
The Nautilus is one of the 8 Submarines of the research
fleet and today she will be taking you and 30 others on a
journey to the North pole and back. As she docks into
port, the gangplanks are lowered into position and you
being the boarding process. You board at the stern of the
ship meaning you get a go starboard seat, with your very
own porthole.
|
 |
The crew then boards
the submarine. The gangplanks are removed, the hatches
are secured, and as soon as the cabin bells ring out you
being your voyage. The captain introduces himself as he
orders the Nautilus to proceed ahead at one-third full
power. The nuclear powered submarine roars to life and
slowly pulls out of the dock. Once clear of the dock the
captain orders the Nautilus to dive and you are now
cruising along the bottom of the shimmering lagoon. You
are just getting settled into your seat as you are
greeted with the first breathtaking underwater views of
your trip.
|
 |
The captain begins
the tour by pointing out the plants and sea life which
are abundant in the lagoon. Towering sea growths and
giant fish surround the Nautilus as she continues to
navigate the channels of the Tomorrowland lagoon. Part of
your journey today is to examine the fishes in the
lagoon, which have been stricken with an unfortunate case
of "platicitis" a rare fish disease. The lagoon
has always represented a peaceful tranquil place in your
heart and as you pass beneath it you can only imagine how
beautiful the Nautilus is passing through it.
|
 |
The coral reefs of
the lagoon are quickly left behind as the Nautilus steams
ahead under nuclear power. Soon you are approaching the
formidable "Cape of Tomorrowland". The cape is
famous for it's horrendous storms which have sunk many
ships in the past. But the Nautilus is definitely not one
of the ships of the past. The captain orders the Nautilus
to dive beneath the waves where you can safely pass the
cape without fear of the storms above. so you sit back
and relax and the Nautilus cheats the dangers of the
"Cape of Tomorrowland".
|
 |
Now deep beneath the
waves, you get your first glimpses of the ocean bottom.
Unfortunately a graveyard of sunken ships greets you as
chunks of wooden ships and splintered pieces of lumber
litter the ocean bottom. These ships which were hauling
precious cargo in and out of Tomorrowland met their fate
several hundred years ago against the rocks that border
Tomorrowland. Up ahead you spot a separate expedition
equipped with the latest in personal diving equipment.
They seem only interested in relieving the sunken ships
of their ancient cargo.
|
 |
After a short time
underwater the chimes of the radar starts to change as
you approach your destination, the polar icecaps. As the
Nautilus dives through the murky water you can view the
bottom of the icecap above you. You are greeted with a
view from your porthole of nothing short of eternal
darkness as you pass through waters where the sun has
never penetrated. But you quickly discover that you are
not alone as strange, yet wonderful animals pass directly
in front of you. Never having seen the sun, nature
provides them with their own eerie luminescence.
|
 |
The Nautilus though,
having reached her destination, and her maximum depth
limit is slowly edging her way toward the surface as the
captain orders her back up to 80 fathoms. Feeling
relieved that you are heading back for warmers waters you
sit back and enjoy the view. But another deep sea
creature is always enjoying the view as it catches a
glimpse of your submarine. More curious than anything it
approaches the Nautilus to take a peak. That's when you
and the crew both notice that you are being tailed by a
giant squid.
|
 |
As a precaution, the
captain orders the repellent charges to be switched on.
These charges of high voltage electricity deters the poor
squid from following you any further, and as you escape
the grip of the squid you continue on your journey and
the squid returns to it eating habits and swears off
chasing anymore submarines.
The captain assures you... "There are legends told
by ancient mariners of ships being crushed into splinters
by the powerful tentacles of giant squid. But of course
these stories have no basis in fact, they're merely tall
tales that should be classed as fiction along with the
myths of mer.... Mermaids?".
|
 |
He stumbles a bit as
he, followed by you catch a glimpse of a very humanoid
figure passing the starboard forequarter of the Nautilus.
Could these perhaps be mermaids? Or have you simply been
submerged so long that you are hallucinating?
"Mr. Baxter ... check the air pressure!"
exclaims the concerned captain. Once Mr. Baxter
determines that you are still within the safety limit,
you continue on your voyage.
|
 |
Suddenly the mermaids
give way to the strange underwater rock formations that,
upon closer inspection, give way the secret location of a
sunken city. The remains of giant statues are afoot in
these sunken ruins and you lose yourself gazing into the
face of a man you lived centuries before you, yet
immortalized in these underwater statues.
Could this man have been the king of this great
civilization? Could these be the ruins of the lost
continent of Atlantis? What could have possibly brought
an end to this great civilization of the past...
|
 |
Without a chance to
ponder upon that thought something strikes the bow of the
Nautilus and suddenly she finds herself dodging falling
columns of rock. You notice an increased in temperature
as suddenly you come upon that destroyer of the
continent, an underwater volcano, still erupting after
hundreds of years.
Utilizing the nuclear strength of the Nautilus the
captain steams past the volcano, and the Nautilus quickly
escapes the same fate that befell Atlantis.
|
 |
One more adventure
awaits you on this voyage as you are suddenly being
chased down by a giant seaserpant, hungry for a meal.
Instead of standing her ground and fighting, the Nautilus
takes more of a diplomatic approach to this problem using
her nuclear muscle to race away from this menacing beast.
Barely escaping with your lives you sit back and enjoy
what little time you have left with your friend, the
Nautilus. The waters become lighter as the Nautilus
slowly passes the familiar surroundings of the "Cape
of Tomorrowland" and breaks the surface of the
shimmering lagoon.
|
 |
You gather up your
belongs, as sadly your cruise comes to an end. The
captain thanks you for joining him on this historic
voyage which you are sad to see end. The Nautilus
gracefully slides into port and the sounds of the hatches
popping open marks the end of your cruise. The cabin
lights come on, the gangplanks are lowered and you
disembark your submarine ready for more adventure. As you
turn around to catch one last glimpse of the Nautilus,
she is already busy taking on more passengers for her
next journey through liquid space, and you leave the
lagoon with a refreshed feeling. |
