What is the Atlantis Expedition?
![]() |
The Story of the replacement for the
Submarine Voyage began in September of 97 when rumors of
the sub's demised were leaked to the Internet. At the
time it was learned that the subs were to be replaced by
coin-operated Remote Control (RC) Boats. Infuriated with
this step by Disneyland Management, Walt Disney
Imagineering decided to step in with their own
replacement for the Submarine Voyage, and updated version
based on an upcoming Disney Animated Movie called
"Escape From Atlantis". |

But that's when the
friction started. At the time, when the outraged guests
were voicing their opinions on a.d.d. the OC Register
gave an interview to Paul Pressler (Current President of
the Disneyland Resort) as to what his plans for the
Submarine Voyage really were. He promised Disneyland
patrons that the Submarine Lagoon would not be closed
until a suitable replacement was set to go in. But that
would soon turn out to be proven false as plans were
announce to close the submarine lagoon in September with
finals plans being months away. |

So as it stands the beautiful Sub Lagoon will close in September, and will sit empty for the next five years. Whether this is an attempt to wait until people forget about Atlantis, or simply an attempt to put off spending any money on it... one thing is clear, it's definitely bad for the guests to come and see nothing but water.
