The way to fill up baseball games at Disney's Wide World of Sports

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays played at WDW recently, and the games were not well attended, despite many tickets being given out free. But there's a way to fill up those games, courtesy of an idea the Dodgers are doing: for $35, you get a field ticket and all you can eat (hot dogs, nachos, etc). The full details are here: http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/la/ticketing/allyoucaneat_pavilion.jsp

Disney should *totally* mimic this move. Tourists tend to like all-inclusive deals anyway, and the locals would probably like the economics of this plan.

Well, we can't even fill up a devil ray's game in Tampa Bay during the season. Maybe it's the economics, baby it's the fact that this is consistently the worst team in MLB.

Also, how would tourists hear about this deal? I'm far more plugged in to WDW happenings that the average tourist and I still never have any idea what is going on over at the WWoSC. It seems like if they want attendance up they need to find a way to advertise before they work on deals.

You're right; they'd have to think about advertising it more aggressively and in new ways. Still, they do have the eyes and ears of tourists, so one assumes that putting it on the TV screens in resort rooms, for instance, might actually do the trick.

What's the point of free food if it's going to take 4 innings to get it? And that's if people are paying. Imagine the line if it were included!

While the WWOS games weren't sell outs, I don't think they were disappointed with the attendance (or results - 3 wins). All three nights came close or beat the attendance for the same three games the previous year at the home dome in St. Pete.

As for All You Can Eat deals, after the long lines at the concession stands the first night, I'm be happier just to be allowed to bring in my own food to eat.

Kevin, did you go? They sold out three games here. Don't you read the paper?
I went to the first one. Not huge crowds, but virtually every seat, gone.
If "not well attended" is as accurate as "giving tickets away," well you see where your credibility goes.

My credibility is just fine. I did go, the games were not sold out, and many of the people in attendance had been given free tickets. It's as simple as that!

Hi Interesting debate! Simpler question, we're visiting until the 10th August, is there anywhere local we could go to see a reasonable standard baseball game? We love watching on TV and would really like to experience a live game with some atmosphere (so needs to be more than 2 guys and a dog there!)Thanks Steve

At this point your best bet is a game in Tampa, which isn't exactly 'local', even with a car. Having the Devil Rays here more often might up the ante and increase possibilities, but that's far from a certainty so far.
