Busch Gardens Tampa
Overview
Tampa, sixty minutes from Walt Disney World, is home to several attractions. The largest is Busch Gardens Tampa, a combination roller coaster park and zoo, and the thematic model upon which Disney's Animal Kingdom was built. For zoo lovers or for thrill-seekers, Busch Gardens is definitely worth a look. Even the theming isn't half bad!
How to Visit
From anywhere in the Orlando area, take Interstate-4 WEST (toward Tampa), and you'll notice signs directing you off the freeway with little difficulty.
Planning Your Day (aka, “Touring” the Park)
1. Do crowded rides early. The big rides with a lot of interest are the inverted coaster Montu, the standup coaster Kumba, the giant wooden coaster Kwazi, and the jeep ride. Other coasters do not experience the crowds these do, and can be enjoyed with smaller waits.
2. Don't forget to stop rushing about occasionally and visit the animal exhibits, many of which are beautiful. We recommend in particular Lorikeet Landing for up-close interaction with colorful birds.
3. Find time, or create time, to visit the hospitality center. When else will you get a chance to sample free Anheiser-Busch alcoholic beverages? The portion sizes are, in fact, enough to give many visitors a buzz.
Where to Eat
Unfortunately, there are few eateries in Busch Gardens Tampa which really stand
out. The large food court in Timbuktu offers decent variety, good value, ample
seating, and a powerful air-conditioning system. What more could you need?
Our Bottom-Line Recommendations
Busch Gardens Tampa has plenty to offer animal lovers as well as thrill seekers.
It even has Disney-style theming! A short sixty minute drive from Walt Disney
World, Busch Gardens has a little bit of everything. It's a welcome respite
from Disney, especially for those on an extended vacation or those who have
visited Disney World several times before.
