Titanic - Ship of Dreams Exhibit

Summary: The Titanic exhibit is a guided walk-through of a facility that is half museum, half mock-up sets.

Location: The Titanic Exhibition is the anchor for the Mercado shopping zone, on the northern half of International Drive. Click here for the official site.

Review:

While the sets are moderately interesting (especially the Grand Staircase reproduction), and the artifacts even more so, there are precious few of each. You also cannot step onto some of the sets. The expensive price of admission is not justified by the sparse offerings, even if you throw in the entertainment value of the role-playing tour guide.

I also considered the tour something of a liability, as visitors were not encouraged to proceed at their own pace. Who wouldn't want to linger at the giant man-made iceberg, magically kept cold and there for everyone to touch?

One redeeming value: each visitor is given an identity of someone from the Titanic on his entrance ticket, and a large wall at the end displays who lived and who died. This exercise graphically illustrates the high death rates of the disaster, and drives home the message viscerally.
