The shopping district of Downtown Disney is crowded with dining options, both table-service and quick-service counter locations. Even amid this backdrop, Earl of Sandwich sticks out as a clear winner in taste, food quality, and value--a real feat among Disney parks and resorts. It's located near the extreme end of the Marketplace section of Downtown Disney.

Normally I wouldn't dwell on the "service" of a fast-food location or counter-service operation, but this is unfortunately Earl of Sandwich's only Achilles Heel. Due perhaps to the great value and taste, this place is always very crowded, leading to minor confusion with the queue and an even bigger bottleneck with the food pickup location. They need to rethink how the ordering, paying, and picking up of food operates here, and ideally rebuild the structure to improve guest flow.

Sandwiches are priced at $5.75 on our visit (up from a year ago, when they were under $5), but they are still a tremendous value. In terms of the outright expense, they are cheap in comparison to other Disney eateries, and only slightly higher than what you'd pay at a national chain off property, such as Subway or Quizno's. In terms of size, the sandwiches are about the same as Subway's six-inch subs, and are cut in half. The bread may be a bit smaller at Earl's.

In terms of flavor, though, Earl beats out the national chains. The meat tends to be fresher and less processed than other sandwich chains, and the seasoning/sauces are well-chosen to complement flavors. Be aware that the roast beef comes slightly (sometimes moderately) pink, so steer clear if rare meat isn't your thing. The Italian sandwich is more than tasty, and the meatball and turkey sandwiches hold their own too. The berry muffin crowns are a real star for dessert.
