A wonderful break from the crushing masses even on busy days, the Plaza Restaurant is tucked away at the castle end of Main Street, and sports usually only short waits for lunch (dinner is another story). It's affordable for table service, and the food is pretty good, making this one a hit.

We tried the vegetarian sandwich ($9), which came on a roll with too much bread, but tasty cheese baked into it. The veggies kept sliding out of the bun, but the entire affair was deemed a successful blend by my guest. When I sampled it, I found it tasted strongly of cucumber and pesto, so if those match your desires, this may be a winner. Another sure winner comes in the form of the freshly-made shakes, created from the ice cream flavors available on the menu. We had the Toll House cookie shake ($4), and it was dangerously good.

I had the reuben sandwich ($11), which came on very dark rye bread, with all the ingredients inside light, fresh, and thinly sliced. With the dark taste of the bread, it was a distinctive mix, and a slightly bold one, but also successful. In fact, there was slight experimentation present on just about everything. The accompanying German potato salad was entire quarter pieces of new potatoes with the vinegar glaze; not so much salad as just plain potatoes. My wife swears by the sweet potato chips, which can be subbed in for any side that comes with your entree. Even the fries are not Disney standard; they are crinkle fries. My child's PB&J sandwich ($4), which he atypically gobbled up, came with a small cup of sliced bananas that was not even on the menu. All this adds up to a chef willing to try new things, and it left a very favorable impression with us.

The service was a touch slow, considering it was early in the day and not yet every table was in use. But the server made up for it by volunteering that the kid's meals need not cost the full $7.50… we could avoid the dessert and appetizer and pay only $4. While we knew that, being insiders, we really appreciated his honesty. Very few servers take this step.

There are very few tables at the restaurant (and no outdoor seating). That makes wait times long, especially at dinner, but it also means the dining room is cramped and noisy, with echoes of just about every conversation bouncing around. We found that comforting, but not everyone will.
