On this visit, we sampled the fish sticks and chicken tenders combo ($7), a truly affordable meal that even includes fries, themselves a treat since they are the 'new formula' type and still cut as thick steak fries, making them crispy, but light inside, and overall hard to resist. The combo doesn't include a drink, however.
The tuna sandwich ($7) featured flaky, moist, perfectly seasoned tuna - neither too much nor too little mayo, though the scent of pepper was pretty strong. Crispy lettuce and fresh multigrain bread make the combo sparkle. It was so healthy, one didn't feel guilty about eating the accompanying kettle chips. Beware the yogurt ($2), which is an expensive version of what you can get in supermarkets, and also know the clam chowder ($4) amounts to a fairly small bowl - not worth its price.
Service was abysmal on our visit. The cashier was pleasant enough, but the uncaring hostess assembling orders skipped us over a few times and offered not a word of explanation. The kitchen took forever, and when the order did arrive, we would have been stiffed for our chowder had I not said something. Still no apology. Even worse, the upstairs eating area was closed at some point during our visit, so the downstairs area become overly clogged. There was plenty of demand for more tables, so clearly they closed the upstairs only because it was what they had scheduled, not what the Guests needed. This is poor performance.
The atmosphere remains wonderful here, particularly if you visit during the daytime when the less-busy upstairs is open, and you don't feel rushed to leave. One could fill an afternoon looking at wall decorations, for instance.
