The BBQ meat combo skillet ($23) is an all you can eat affair, with salad, corn on the cob, baked beans, BBQ chicken, BBQ pork ribs, mashed potatoes, peel and eat shrimp, and pulled pork. It’s an enormous amount of food, and not only did I not order any seconds, I couldn’t even finish what was brought. The food is uneven. Mostly the flavors were basic and unsurprising, with the highest bundled flavor coming from the mostly-mashed red potatoes and the baked beans. The meats were not particularly lean, but the worst offense was the presence of only one BBQ sauce rather than a variety, and the sauce itself wasn’t anything unusual.
At the other end of the spectrum, though, was the chipotle garlic chicken pasta ($18), deemed by my wife as her favorite dish on Disney property so far—a pretty bold claim. Bold is also a good word for the flavors, which swirled into an explosion on the tongue, somehow tickling sweet and salty at the same time.
In the middle was the child’s chicken ($8 with sides)—the sides were excellent, and healthy, but the main dish was downright bland. It came with pasta, and there was a plain marinara sauce for both, but the sauce couldn’t rescue the plainness.
If it’s flavor you want, though, the bottomless milkshake ($6) is the right play. You can refill with alternate flavors and thus explore everything. There are all the usual flavors, and daily specials (on our visit, those included bubble gum, cotton candy, caramel, and a thrilling orange dreamsicle).
What you came here to experience, though, is the atmosphere. The kids are called up to do a ‘pony ride’ with old-style pony sticks, and servers affect an air of attitude to establish a certain mood. They toss your straws carelessly onto the table and they go out of their way to humiliate you… all in good fun. If you ask for ketchup, the server will scream it out to the whole restaurant, and then ketchup arrives. Not from workers, but from other Guests! On your table will now be more than a dozen bottles of ketchup, and you are on the hook now to bring those over to the next table that calls for it. The place, obviously, is high energy and fun.
