Dinner is an all you can eat price. Children ($14) are brought a platter full of fries, mac and cheese, and chicken strips. Alas, the only sauce available is ketchup - not too optimal for the picky kids. All of the children's food was pretty much run of the mill and not worth the cost, if you're talking food alone.
Adults ($30) are brought first a largely forgettable salad of mixed greens to share, together with a basket of rolls and cornbread which were at least served hot. Next came the entrees, also served family style, which arrived in the form of one small dish of catfish nuggets and a platter onto which was placed thin green beans, chunky potatoes with melted cheese topping, a few slices of medium flank steak, and several slices of very lean turkey next to some cranberries. The turkey was easy to eat, with medium-bodied flavor. The steak was full of promise on the first bite, peppery and buttery, but the flavor was quick-lived and not present in every piece. Plus the meat was at times a bit tough. Only the fried catfish nuggets were consistently good, with a spicy exterior and a flaky, moist interior. Alas, no remoulade or sauce was made available here, either.
While seconds were brought on request (they asked which items we wanted more of, and waited until the plates were fully empty), there was something unremarkable about the meal in general. The focus here was not to be on the food. The server seemed a bit busy, actually.
Instead of food, patrons are apparently supposed to focus on the artificial biospheres below us (or, if you have a second tier seat, you have to walk over to the railing on the outside to be able to see). But that's not all. This is character dining! Mickey, Pluto, Chip, and Dale came to visit our table, paying lots of attention to our baby (and not so much attention to the four year old). They were neither hurried nor luxurious in their time spent at the table, but they passed by a few times and waved each time they did so. For a family intent on seeing these exact characters, it would be money well spent. For everyone else, the experience is just too expensive.
