The lunch price ($20) costs less than dinner but buys the same food. For kids ($11), expect corn dog nuggets, mac and cheese, rotisserie chicken legs, or build-your-own PB&J sandwiches. Kids are welcome to feast on the adult food, too. And there is a lot of it! A carving station has pork loin and prime rib, there's curry chicken, a kalamata olive and rice salad, hummus, baba ganoush, mango chutney, mashed red potatoes, raisen glaze, salmon, multiple varieties of cous cous, curried vegetable samosa triangles, and plenty of breads. In general, think of this as another variation of the famous Boma restaurant, at Animal Kingdom Lodge, but without zebra dome desserts, and for my taste, actually a bit less 'adventurous'. That, to me, makes it more of a winner all the same - you get 'slightly exotic' flavors without needing to get experimental, with layered flavors and whole-mouth experiences that will have you salivating for more.
And there is always more. I counted twelve different kinds of desserts, from lemon squares and pecan tarts, bread pudding, brownies, chocolate sponge cake, raspberry tart… the list goes on and on. But make positive you sample the fudge marble cheesecake, an exercise in decadence that you owe yourself after all the walking you're doing on this day.
Since it's a buffet, it's not standard table service, but the server will bring you drinks and refills, and clear plates for you. Many visitors don't feel compelled to leave a full 15% gratuity for such service, yet many servers expect it. We found refills reasonably fast, but plate clearing was quite slow.
The décor of the restaurant didn't change, so expect cluttered walls as if it's a lodge there for people before they set out on safari. That makes for nice theming, but it's pretty low-key. The air-conditioning is a welcome respite from outside weather swings, at least.
